Xiaomi is mostly seen to keep upgrading MIUI overlay without upgrading the Android version. Android Q is making its way soon. The company has already promised that they are working on a lot of updates for MIUI. These new updates include many features such as dark mode, performance and animation improvements and so on.

Android Q on Xiaomi devices

Currently, Xiaomi is also working on updating their devices to Android Q. This wasn't expected from Xiaomi considering the fact that they had also cancelled Android Pie updates in the past for a few of their devices. But it looks like Xiaomi is taking a different approach with Android Q.

OnePlus 6/6T Open Beta

The company has let out a list on their forums which shows the ETA for Android Q on Xiaomi devices. Here is the list.

  • In Q4 2019:
    • Xiaomi Mi 9
    • Redmi K20 Pro
    • Xiaomi Mi 8
    • Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint, Explorer Edition
    • Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, 3
    • Redmi K20
    • Xiaomi Mi 9 SE
  • In Q1 2020
    • Redmi Note 7
    • Redmi Note 7 Pro (added later)

Android Q for Xiaomi or Stability?

As we can see it is confirmed that Redmi Note 7 & Note 7 Pro would be getting Android Q by Q1 of 2020. It's pretty late but better than not getting at all. The other Xiaomi devices which are going to receive Android Q mainly include Mi 9, K20 and so on from the list. These devices would receive the update in Q4 2019 which is pretty soon.

As far as updates to Xiaomi devices are considered, it makes no difference. MIUI is such a heavy overlap which Xiaomi uses by which you no longer see which Android version it is. All users want is better stability and performance rather than a new Android name coming to their phones.

So what do you think of this Android Q rollout plan from Xiaomi? Is your Xiaomi device on the list? Let us know in the comments below!
