Xiaomi Dethroned Samsung To Become #1 Smartphone Seller in India in Q4 2017 :Counterpoint, Canalys
Samsung lost its crown as #1 smartphone seller in India to Xiaomi, Samsung stuck to the #1 position ever since it replaced the once world's #1 phone seller Nokia.
Now, Chinese OEM Xiaomi Dethroned Samsung in the final quarter of 2017 to become no #1 in India.
Thanks to the aggressively priced handsets from Xiaomi which became the most popular devices among the price conscious Indian buyers.
But as far as the annual analysis is considered Samsung retained its top spot with 24% with Xiaomi tagged at second place with 19%
If we look at the year on year sales of Samsung and Xiaomi, It is obvious that Xiaomi has rapidly grown with its strategy revolving around online sales model by selling its devices through flash sales on its own mi. com, homegrown flipkart.com and US giant's Amazon.in with almost no budget spent on advertising.
With Samsung gearing up to increase its online presence and Xiaomi started to explore the offline sales model. It would be a tough head on head competition in the coming quarters of 2018.
Jio Phone #1 in Feature phones:
Interestingly Reliance, Jio phone topped the best selling featured phones in Q4 in India with 26% market share which is followed by Samsung with 15% share.
If the overall year is considered Samsung Leads the way with 21% share, with Intel coming next to it with 12% share which has seen a massive improvement from 5% share it has last year.
